7:28 pm - Update Part 2
|
So I’m sitting here on the plane 2 hours out from Vancouver. Hmm that means I’ve been on this thing for about 9 already… fun? Anyways the people at the airport were really bitchy I didn’t get a seat with Ed even though he and his mom reserved it. I don’t even know what happened. I think the seat they reserved doesn’t exist. Oh well at least I got some sleep. So I’ve been lazy about updating and stuff cause ya… wanted to enjoy my last days in China. I’m gonna start where I left off cause otherwise it gets really confusing so ya all the way back to Beijing which was hell a week and a half gone. Hey look King Kong just started, I don’t think I ever saw that… meh. They showed the second Ice Age movie which I also never saw earlier so I watched it cause I figured with 8 more hours of sitting in a seat followed by walking to another 5 hours of sitting in a different seat I had time to kill. Hmm office just opened one of those pop-up windows telling me to send them suggestions, which is ironic considering I’m sitting on a plane. And for those who might not know other than the fact that you’re 30000 feet in the air so it might be a little hard to find a decent signal or at least keep it you’re not allowed to have any outside contact whatsoever. So basically planes are like round quarantine rooms with nice seats and wings… omg a bubble. Ahem, moving on… I wonder if they actually have air marshals on every flight like in all those movies… probably not but with all the terrorist threats these days you never know. Like at the airport it took Ed and his mom like at least half an hour more then me to get from check in to the gate cause the people were paranoid and checked each individual package in their carry-on baggage sniffing for drugs and plastics and other nifty little toys. They eventually decided to confiscate a bottle of toothpaste. Basically, don’t bring anything edible/consumable/usable. Stick to metal, cloth, and plastic.
So I went on a little tangent, sue me. So yes, Beijing. Went with my uncle cause his company’s HQ in China’s there so he travels there a lot. Which is nice cause I get to stay in a five-star hotel (Shangri La thank you very much) and eat expensive meals at the expensive of some American. Oh and the hotel people messed up my uncle’s personal data so they ended up upgrading us to a room on the Horizon Club floor. Basically there’s a lounge there with an amazing breakfast buffet and “snacks” (which included everything from sushi to mini-steaks to fruit) till 7 all of which is free :D. I found the place quite amusing cause at breakfast one morning there was like 4 people there including me and we had no less then 3 waitresses hovering around in that single room. 2 of who’s job seems to solely consist of taking away plates the second you take set it aside or get up or tell them to. The other poured coffee and brought out plates of whatever you ordered. Oh ya you can order some dishes like eggs or omelet which they cook up for you which is nice. Anyways so we get there in the afternoon on the first day. Checked in, unpacked and went to dinner . Which was this hotpot where instead of a fire they have coal sitting in a bronze container in the middle of the pot. So there was shrimp and lamb and other seafood/vegetable type dishes which you cooked. Oh and there were these really weird fish balls. Basically they had a batch of dough stuffed into a stick (?) of bamboo and they chopped it up on the spot and dropped them into the pot. Quite tasty actually although weirdly shaped. Oooh skulls… have half an eye on King Kong without sound so I don’t really know what’s going on. Btw Beijing is huge, like it’s larger then Shanghai in area but it’s got less people (15 million compared to 18 million) so there’s a lot less high rises and it looks more expansive. Oh apparently there’s a city in China with 30 million people… largest city in the world population wise. Can’t remember the name though lol. Whoa I just reached the second page… this is gonna be a long update. If you’re still reading this you’re crazy… insane I tell you. So then, second day went on a day tour which was offered in the hotel and which had English guides which were nice. Oh and it was a small group of around 13 I think most of which were foreigners. There were a few from the U.S., 3 from London, England of course, an Indian family, and 3 from Singapore. So anyways on the tour we went to the Ming tombs in the morning when it was pouring but that was fine cause there wasn’t that much to see. Basically it was 13 tombs of the Ming Emperors scattered around a valley of which we got to see one… a big mound of dirt. I see the breakfast trolley so this’ll have to continue later.
Stupid airport security bullshit. Our plane was delayed 3 hours for “security reasons” which basically means them searching bags for explosives stuck in hand cream. Oh and you can’t get a bottle/can of soda in the airport cause ya… you could implant a bomb into it? So basically you have to pour it into a cup which also cannot have a lid. Anyways so now I’m about an hour and a half from Ottawa so it’ll be around 1:30 when the plane lands. Joy. Moving on, so after visiting the Ming tombs we had lunch which was crappy “Chinese food” made for foreigners and tour groups. After that we went to the Great Wall. I must say it’s probably my favourite place in Beijing. By that time it had stopped raining so it was nice and cool… perfect weather for a nice climb. Anyways you can go up either side one of which was steeper but less people. I decided to go up the path less traveled cause if you’ve seen the crowds in China you’d understand. So that took about an hour and a half after which we went back to the hotel. Dinner that night was Peking Duck… mmm *drool*. We didn’t have a reservation so we had to wait like 20 minutes for a seat but it was worth it. They cut the duck in front of you so that was neat and it was cheap too. I think the 2 of us ended up spending about 150 yuan (20 bucks) altogether and it had half a duck with all the sauces and some other dishes.
Next day I went with the same group but the tour started at 7: 30 in the morning so that was annoying. The tour started at Tian’anmen Square which was jam packed with tourists and people in general. The lineup to see the corpse of Mao spanned the entire length of the square twice over and it’s the largest square in the world (fits half a million people). Luckily that wasn’t on our agenda so instead we walked onto the Forbidden City. That place is huge. It just goes on and on and on and on some more. I think the guide said there was over 9000 rooms in the palace. So anyways after walking through the place for 2 hours the guide took us to a shop where apparently the Last Emperor’s cousin writes calligraphy and paints. There was this one Italian guy in the group who bought 4 wall hangings each of which was over 3000 yuan (over 600 bucks each). Found out later he owns a small hotel in Venice. After more crappy tour food we went to the Temple of Heaven which is totally made of wood and all round. Apparently it’s the place the Emperor would go to pray for a good harvest or some such. Last place we went to is the Summer Palace which is situated on this manmade hill that’s the size of like downtown Ottawa. Oh and it was on the side of this giant manmade lake. Took I think it was 300 thousand people to build. Mmm manual labour.
Ok so now I’m sitting on my bed… this update has gone on way too long. Anyways that evening we had Peking Duck which was yummy. The next day our plane was at 4:30 in the afternoon so I had the morning to myself. I decided to go to Wangfu Jing which is like a shopping district. Bought some souvenirs and stuff and ya that’s about it. Twas a fun trip and all and I’m onto a third page so I’ll stop now… finally.

10:21 am - Update part 1
|
Ok so I should probably do some updates… it’s not my fault… I was busy. Anyways so first… err Hainan I guess. We spent 2 and a half days there which consisted mainly of lying on the beach. We stayed at this 5 star beach resort called “The Mangrove Tree” or something random like that in Yalong Bay which was sooooo nice. Our rooms had nice views of the beach and the bay and the swimming pools downstairs and everything. I would put up some pics if I could figure out this livejournal thingy but obviously that’s not happening so oh well, no pics it is. So anyways, first day there got up at like 9:00 and went down for some buffet breakfast outside. Btw, if you’ve never had a proper high class hotel breakfast it’s definitely something you should try. They have everything from assorted pastries to freshly cooked eggs to bacon to sausages to random other Asian snacks (aka dumplings/spring rolls/etc). And because the hotel is in the tropics during the summer there was a billion types of fruit most of which I can’t name. Anyways after the gorging for quite a while we went to the beach. Now this is the great thing about resorts with their own beaches. The only people who could go were people staying at the resort so there were people at the beach but not an overly excessive amount of people which is quite a rare thing in China. Oh and they provide you with beach chairs, beach towels, those large umbrellas and all that. So than after a while we decided to rent some sea doos, which were excessively expensive but amazingly fun. I first went out with my uncle who actually knew what he was doing so ya… whee!! There were some heavy winds throughout our visit so bigger waves so even more fun :D. Anyways so I went out alone after but it’s pretty hard to control the thing. I ended up falling off once cause I was going too fast into a turn :$. So that took us to around noon after which we lounged around the beach some more which probably wasn’t so smart with the sun and all. But ya… decided to go for a swim in the afternoon in one of the outdoor pools (the small one that was empty) and on the way... we found hammocks!! There was maybe 10 or so scattered around an area with a nice of the beach and palm trees everywhere. So took a nice little nap in the shade of the palms which was pleasant. Nice thing about Hainan under the sun it gets extremely hot but it’s relatively cool in the shade. Anyways swimming got delayed a little but we went afterwards so it was all good. Dinner was at this Thai restaurant which was in this nice Chinese style building with a view of the Bay (of course). Omg the food there was amazing. We had giant shrimp in curry sauce, some random vegetables, a tropical fruit salad, deep fried fish, and scallops. Oh and the drink they gave us was amazing… it had these blobs of some kind of fruit I still couldn’t figure out in it and it was a mixture of some fruit juices… just don’t ask me which ones… all I know is it tasted good. Went out for a walk by myself at night which was nice with the breeze and everything. Next day I went diving with my cousin which was fun. We each had a instructor who basically led us around. Ears felt uncomfortable for a while cause of the pressure and stuff but overall it was nice… saw some coral… some colourful fish… and eel… random spiky things… and thankfully no sharks. After lunch we went “downtown” which was basically a random collection of stores and walked around for a while. Had dinner at some restaurant… as in more seafood and went back to the hotel. Last morning of the trip was basically lazing on the beach again. I got sunburn but it was worth it. This is getting long so I’ll do Beijing later. Bye for now

Hmm so i've been here for a week and 2 days... hmm what to say. Uhh well last sunday night/monday morning was the World Cup final so i went to a soccer pub thingy with my uncle and his gf. The things people come up with, there were giant 61" tvs everywhere for the sole purpose of watching the game. Anyways we got there early so we were kinda just chilling and watching the random entertainment they had on stage. Come to think of it was my first time in an actual bar/pub/whatever you call it and it was unbelievably loud. And i'm not just saying that my uncle says it's one of the loudest bars he's been to. So that was fun and i didn't have alcohol... at least not too much. Btw beer tastes horrible. Ahem... moving on.
So most of the week has been devoted to shopping and relaxing. Bought some shirts... watched some 24 (my uncle has all 5 seasons... i didn't even know there was more then 1 season)... oh and bought some lamps. Oh and getting me a laptop WHEE!! Let's see what else... bought 300rmb worth of dvds each of which cost 5rmb ^^. A lot of it's my mom's but still... it's cheap as hell. Especially the random tv series cause they have like 10 episodes on each disc. I've yet to find a good place to buy pirated games but it'll happen. Went to visit my grandpa's grave on tuesday and afterwards my mom was talking about buying the gravestone marker place for her parents so that was a little morbid.
Let's not forget about the food now :D. We went to this little traditional village thing about an hour outside of the city which was made for tourists. Anyways for dinner we sat outside on the patio right beside the river and had tons of seafood. And i do mean tons... umm an entire fish, another fish dish but fried, these tiny lobsters (like they were almost shrimp sized), frog legs :D (they're actually not too bad, tastes like chicken lol), scallops, shrimp, and some random vegetables... and all of it cost about 100rmb which translates to all of 15 dollars. and that fed 4 people with a lot leftover. For some reason, people here are obssessed with seafood so ya had a lot of that by now. Yesterday we had these fish balls which were amazing... so going back there sometime. Anyways i don't really feel like rambling anymore so cya people in a month :P.

Anyways got off twhe 17 hour flight... where i really didn't sleep much... and dropped off luggage then went out for dinner at some fancy restaurant. So that was fun and stuff. Yesterday went shopping at some crazy outlet place where there was like NO stock. Then went walking along the river at night. Oh and we were sitting and eating ice cream when some random boat floats by and starts putting out fireworks. Anyways i'm off, bye guys

10:47 am - PARTY!!!!!!
|
Umm yes... so that was fun. Went with Julie and Tilly to pick up Laurence at Bilings... got to Jane's house and there were no footprints so we were all like umm is Jane here yet? Cause if not this is kinda awckward since her mom was kinda walking around the garage... anyways Laurence called her cell and we figured out (late but shush) that she had parked her car in the garage :P. Moving on, stood around the kitchen gorging vegetable chips and salad for a while and played with Jane's little brother. Lol he was like petrified for the first 10 minutes cause we were all staring at him :D Umm so ya watched some Family Guy then started Night of the Living Dead but stopped after like 5 minutes cause it's just such a bad movie (sry Tilly but it is) so instead watched Silence of the Lambs (very good movie :) while eating pizza from Jane's dad's restaurant (correct me if i'm wrong lmao). Twas very good pizza... lol found it amusing that the veggie pizza was gone like immediately. Soo... in a (failed) attempt to creep ppl out we went out into the woods after the movie. There was a rematch (??) of hide and seek... Tilly... guess who lost :P. After came the throwing of snow in the faces of the ppl of course... and pushing Jane face first into a snowbank but we'll just ignore that. Tilly was being very abusive to Saad tsk tsk. Oh ya the earthquake apparently happened right after we left the house but we felt nothing :( (or at least i felt nothing). Blah umm so ya went inside and there was the usual entertainment (aka Jane+Rochow+Saad+Tilly wrapped in a blanket... don't ask, oh and let's not forget Jane's little brother+Jane's laugh XP). Lol and somehow came out that Laurence lost to Tilly in arm wrestling so ya chaos ensued... Kevin proved his tankness by kicking Saad's ass (for shame Saad) and Laurence proceeded to tie against Ting (btw forgot to mention how he threw snow at her earlier...). Oh and somewhere in between all this we watched Euro Trip (umm yaa... no comment) don't ask me what came when though cause i can't be bothered to remember. That was about when Kate, Saad, and Rochow left blah! Uhh yes... so we just kinda sat around and put on crappy movies that no one really watched and were cut off somewhere in between (aka Night of the Living Dead... again!! just for the record i'm not saying Jaws is a crappy movie it was the other ones). Sometime during that the rum came out and yaa... *shrug*. After a while we just decided to watch Family Guy and listened to Jane bitch about Laurence being an uncomfortable pillow... while Kim drifted off to dreamland lol. So by 3 ppl we were losing ppl so Tilly finished the rest of the rum *sigh*. At least she could talk straight... coordination may be a slight problem lol... (sry for the mess... es Jane). Ok this is getting too long so someone else can fill in the blanks... Oh and i did so sleep... just cause i was sitting up doesn't mean i wasn't asleep... some of the time

"who can get a car on monday"... ya turns out she thought we should get stuff from timmies for monday's class :)... so yes, we wrote our orders down and Oana's gonna pick them up monday morning before class... (mmm coffee and donuts...). Oh ya, since Oana was late to class no one else had a car so ms fraser was like "hmm do i trust any of you with my car".. then she told us story about how 2 years ago (i think) half of her class was missing for something so she took some ppl in her car to timmies to get food for the rest of the class. so ya... walks into the store... sees some of her students in their skipping lmao. oh and after seeing her and knowing she saw them they hid under the table :D. lol and what does ms fraser do? offer them a ride back to school... lunch was grad auction which was well amusing... oh before that bunvh of ppl bought their matchmakers... all i can say is ouch while rofl if any of this makes any sense i'll be suprised so umm ya... don't ask

ok before anything else i'm gonna use this as a checklist cause ya... not gonna be a pretty week next week. anyways so:
Zorba notes -> gotta do part 1, 2, 3, and i'm assuming 4 for next week... suprise that's the entire book world lit 2 -> due next monday... well at least by the end of this i'll hate Zorba with a passion chem test on acid/base -> wednesday... which is actually the worst possible date she could give us but ok french -> not much actually... but it'll be a miracle if she doesn't give us something to do over the weekend (reminds me of the feather that broke the camel's back or w/e) physics test(s) -> paper 1... wednesday... hoorah T_T... how do u do 2 science related tests in one day? HOW?!?! and paper 2 following week... that's sooo helpful cause originally it was mon/wed math portfolio -> omfg whyever did he have to make it due next week... he couldn't just be nice for once and let us have the really long weekend!! comm tech podcast thingy -> we're supposed to have all the script/recording done for next week but ya.. so totally ignored cause it's just not important enough
and that's my 3 and a half day in a nutshell... an extremely large and disgusting nutshell but still
ok onto other matters so we did our comm tech presentation today... it was mildly amusing. so the entire project was copy pasted from some summary sheet we did for ITGS last year onto powerpoint and i inserted a cool background... it took all of 15 minutes. so then we go up and start presenting... then we get to issues with company surveillance... Mark H promptly starts talking about ebay and buying stuff and i'm like wtf... i try to tell him to read the slide but of course am ignored. which is about when i realize that he has absolutely no idea what our presentation is on since he didn't take ITGS last year. if i cared more about that class i would be upset but i don't so it was just funny. oh we got our math portfolios back too... sigh... =(... i need to do better on my next 2 portfolios or math is just not gonna work.
why i went to school today i don't really know... oh well

So umm ya... today was such a pointless day. Woke up at 8:30 and didn't feel like working soo i went back to sleep. Got up at 11... lunch... bus. OMFG the buses today was retarded. Morning, waited 8 minutes at Heron for a 97... drove ever so slowly... randomly stops at riverside hospital for like a minute... gets to Hurdman and suprise suprise, sees 124 driving away. Soo... take 95 to Blair... fucking 2 is also late AND drives super slow. So i'm late 10 minutes for Tech after walking for like 15 minutes in the freezing cold. At least Mr. Baird didn't notice. Tech was totally pointless cause Mr. Baird felt like chatting meaning no presentations today... then math was taking up the horrible test on which i got a freaking 4 (T_T). After school went to George's B-day party. Got to his house... he didn't have house keys... had to wait like half an hour for his mom to come... outside (luckily we hid in Kevin's car so no frozen ppl). So anyways... party was ok with a few *cough* exceptions but ya... Then comes the bus/car ride home... :( Kevin gave me a drive to Blair where i called my parents to get a drive... of course the cell i took was conveniently outta batteries so pay phone sigh. Oh and guess what... mom wasn't back yet with the car.. at 8:30!! So... bus again... went up waited 10 min for 95... got on... takes out iPod... no freaking batteries!! wtf!! Ahem, moving on, got to hurdman... missed the 87... wait 10 min for 97... get to Bilings... finally manages to get a ride home. Anyways sorry about all the complaining but i'm very angry at OC transpo right now... That's it for me... sleepy time:)

Soo... here I am again, in front of the keyboard... why am I here you ask? Well i'm asking you. Anyways faced witha 3 hour lab report write up I took the easy way out and decided to... procrastinate... hoorah!! So since this is merely a method of delaying the inevitable and at the same time appeasing Tilly I don't really know what to say.
Uhh for the lack of a better topic I've decided to complain about the nightmarish hell of a math test that I just had the misfortune of wading through today... believe me it wasn't fun. I got answers for 3 of the 6 questions on the test and I'm pretty sure one of them's wrong... can't be a good sign. Of course, the fact that I barely studied might explain why this test was so bad but that would involve too many resolutions and bs like that so I'm just gonna blame it on the test being too hard. Oh and I can still cling to the hope that if everyone else also did bad we'll all get gigantic boosts making my fail into a 4 or even 5!!
And before I begin trying to start my lab report I'd just like to ask why the hell we have so much goddamn homework on the first week back from Christmas... wtf is wrong with the teachers sheesh.

7:31 pm - Happy New Year
|
Yay New Years? Sigh this is about the time of year when i wish i could go back and do it over again... someone invent a time machine already!! I swear, life would be so much easier if we get a second attempt at everything... or a third... or a million... ya anyways...
New Year's Resolutions huh? Ya not gonna make any of those cause i'm like 100.0000001% sure that i'm not gonna be able to keep them. Stupid past experience... so ya... why bother at all. Much better to just see where life takes me and all that.
Well at least Christmas this year's been fun. Like my weekend consisted of sleep till 11 on saturday... eat... read&play games... eat... Tilly's house to watch movies and getting force fed pizza... New Year blah... sleep... wake up at 11 30... eat... go to Mark's house to play poker and smash bros... come home and eat... so yes... very pleasant.
Hope you all have a wonderful Year

9:52 pm - Why do I have a conscience?
|
Sigh... here I am updating again because some people *cough cough* (yes you) make a living out of manipulating people. Stupid guilt... it's such a useless thing. I mean we could have so much more freedom without it. Think about it, we would have so much cooler stuff since we can now steal, and like we wouldn't have to give money to the poor and needy (stupid leechers, so what if your house was destroyed in an earthquake and half your family died to disease, live with it). Oh and we wouldn't be dragged to all those annoying, dull, boring, uneventful parties our parents always make us go to cause they start ranting about how they always drive you places and bs like that. Unfortunately, I do experience the pain of guilt and am thus here... typing... hsss. Sometimes I feel like I'm too nice, I mean I don't really hate anyone or even dislike thaaaa... aat many people. Moving on day was much too normal for my liking... I mean no half day, no assembly, no freak fire drills, no nothing. English... well it's english so ya... who here hates physics homework? Oh wait no, you're all too pussy to take physics (ignore that, that's just me being bitter towards physics, not you). Chem was probably my most interesting class of the day cause Ms Pall is absolutely hilarious... which is not always good when you consider what she's SUPPOSED to be doing. Anyways so ya, she went on the whole marry man for money and cars thing and love not existing. Which is fine except she then goes on to deny ever thinking that way and blaming it on other people... in this case some french chemist dude who is so totally ignored. Anyways physics... ewww. Lalonde wants our lab books OMFG I'm screwed!!!!!! French was... eventful. Got called down to the office where they gave me some random certificate for volunteering at flu clinic and then gave me my grad photos which I never bothered picking up. Oh and arranged an appointmen with Mr. B (happy I mentioned him). Then Mme. Dussault made me go talk to the physiotherapy student person... again, only this time I was with Ying and Jenna so didn't have to say that much. Anyways she basically wanted to know about the Ontario education system cause she's doing a project comparing Ontario and Quebec education. The went back, got our paper 1 back... I GOT A 6!!!! I was like omg so happy... yes okay this has gone on too long so gonna stop now.

9:00 pm - Waste of my time.
|
hmm so... once again i'm doing an update yay!!! *puke* excuse me Anyways so what AM i supposed to write about anyways?? My day eh? Umm well got up at 10, played a game for an hour and a half (don't u just love those double spares), and ate lunch on the way to school. Met Steph, Tai, and Tilly as i walked into the school by the music room and ignored Tai... fun!! My sole class of the day was math where we took notes *yawn* and dozed some more... somehow no matter how much sleep i get i'm still tired these days... Moving on so i basically wasted 40 minutes on the bus to go to math (grr) which is as usual totally useless since Mr Wardle is well... not the best of teachers. At least we were let out early for DEAR so me and Mark (Hui) went to St. Laurent for some Teriyaki... the sauce tasted wierd (not bad wierd... actually it's good wierd). Then i get home at like 3 30 and i find out that i'm locked at my house (hssss). See we installed one of those latch thingies on our door and it was shut since grandma was home. But since she doesn't speak english she usually doesn't open the door so ya i was stuck outside since it was so early and she thought it couldn't possibly be me or my parents. Anyways i eventually got in cause she saw me through the upstairs window... thank god it was warm today... So that took like 10 minutes and then went on msn for a while and took a nap yay!! naps = good. And yet another wasted day goes by and i have a chem test tomorrow woot!! (in case it's not obvious sarcasm intended)

So it's like 12 at night and i'm being forced to update. Ever feel like you're being prodded with a very sharp and pointy stick? You know what I mean. Well at least i now know it's not a good idea to be on msn later then 11... that's about when the distractions (aka ppl) start logging off.
Anyways i'm gonna go hide now cause i'm tired and it's taking me around 5 tries to type every word.
Tilly hope you're satisfied... stupid comm tech and stupid mr baird letting ppl into our class...
